The Golf Club of Avon is excited to welcome Mark Johnson to the team as our Director of Racquets. Mark is originally from England and has been playing tennis since he was 9 years old. He began playing competitively via a training academy in Spain before playing in college in Hawaii and Oklahoma.
Mark mentioned he always knew he wanted tennis to be his career so once he graduated he relocated to New York to start at ProForm Tennis. Since then Mark has worked at several tennis clubs, tennis academies (Chris Evert’s), and country clubs including Greenwich Country Club (Head Pro), Turtle Point Yacht and Country Club (Junior Director and Head Pro, but Mark most recently was the Junior Director and Head Pro at the Field Club of Greenwich.
Mark says the best thing about his job is watching people of all ages improve and enjoy the sport. In his free time, Mark likes to spend time with his wife (Holly), daughter (Emma) who he says is the true boss in his life, and their three dogs (Scout, Luca and Lucy). Mark also enjoys exercising, playing tennis and competing, hiking, and a big pleasure is to eat and try different cuisines.
We look forward to everyone meeting Mark on the courts soon! He says that, “from Paddle to Pickle to Tennis Courts; If you can play one, you can play all as each of them can benefit the other”.
